-Elizabeth Gilbert
Hey, what's up, hello. I'm back and going to attempt all of this again. I thought I would begin writing and sharing ways to get intentional about joy in 2017 but there were a lot of other things and massive changes in my life that began to take priority over my creative outlet of writing. As I was closing in on 2017 I realized how slack I had been and I honestly was scared of getting back into writing. I thought that I needed to wait until an opportune time to begin again or wait for someone's permission.
That's when I re-read one of my favorite authors - Elizabeth Gilbert's book "Big Magic" and saw that I had highlighted in bright orange the quote above. I laughed out loud at myself. Why on earth do we think we need someone's permission to live a creative life? I mean who was supposed to grant me permission? My parents? Friends? Other bloggers? It seems ridiculous that I would put my creative outlet on pause because I am waiting for the right time or the right person to say start. Well, I'm learning that the right time is always now and the only person that is going to really help you get started is yourself. Give yourself the permission to start now exactly where you are and with exactly what you have.
If you were waiting for January 1 to start going after your goals and dreams but somehow missed that start date (maybe like me you went a little too hard on New Years eve) then give your permission to start today. It's Wednesday night at 8:37PM and you're already on your second glass of red wine? So what! What action can you take right now - no matter how small - that will get you one step closer to your goal?
Let this year be the year we stop waiting for permission to make positive changes in our lives and achieve our goals.
Sending you joy!
